Obituary of Grace Alice Fielding

Please share a memory of Grace to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Grace Alice Fielding, 94, of Jackson Township, passed away surrounded by her family on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at the home of her daughter, Ann Marie. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Grace was born to Joseph and Alice Manzoni on the family’s Jackson Township farm, on August 28, 1926, the third of nine children. A graduate of Kingston Township High School, she worked at the Coal-o-Matic defense plant during WWII and married Sidney Fielding in 1946. Sidney preceded her in death in 1986 due to black lung disease. In later life, she became the companion of Fred DiMaria, who also preceded her in death. Grace is survived by 2 daughters and their husbands, Elizabeth and Peter Oliver of Newtown and Ann Marie and Gregory Walter of Lafayette Hill; 5 grandchildren, Sarah Walter Berger and Captain Nicholas Berger of Stafford, VA, Stephen and Lisa Walter of King of Prussia, Amanda Walter Sweeney and Kevin Sweeney of Havertown, Catherine Oliver of Marquette, MI, and Victoria Oliver of Newtown; 4 great-grandchildren, Teagan and Keira Sweeney and Liam and Harper Grace Berger; sister, Alice Lee of Plymouth; and brothers, John Manzoni of Jackson Township and Alfred Manzoni of Dallas. In addition to her husband and companion, she is preceded in death by 3 brothers and 2 sisters. A parishioner of St. Therese’s Catholic Church in Shavertown, she was an indefatigable volunteer, especially for the American Red Cross, the Lake-Lehman Band Sponsors, and the Jackson Township Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She attended the initial organizing meeting of the Auxiliary and was present at its dissolution. In between, she worked on the iconic turkey dinners that raised much of the money needed to purchase the township’s first fire engine. Grace was a lover of animals and children. A cause truly dear to her heart was the St. Jude’s Hospital for Children. She was an extraordinary homemaker, a cleaning whiz, very good cook, and an excellent seamstress. In her early marriage she made her own clothes as well as her daughter’s and husband’s shirts. Grace had an extraordinary knack for organization which bordered on the magical. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at 10:15 AM from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek, with a Mass of Christian Burial following at 11:00 AM from the St. Therese’s Church, 64 Davis St., Shavertown, PA 18708 with Rev.
