Obituary of Irene Helen Niemczyk

Irene Niemczyk, RN, age 97 of Hunlock Creek, passed away Friday, June 18, 2021 at the Mercy Center, Dallas. She was born in Hudson on July 7, 1923 and was the daughter of the late Walter and Stella Okszewski Wozniacki. Irene graduated from Plains High School and then attended Wyoming Valley Homeopathic Hospital, graduating as a RN. She worked many years as an OR Nurse at the Nanticoke State General Hospital, retiring in 1985. She enjoyed quilting with the Bloomingdale Grange Quilters. In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Niemczyk, sister, Sophie Stesney and brother, Henry Wozniacki. She is survived by her daughters, Carol J. Douds of Henderson, NV, Ann Marie Niemczyk Swetz and her husband Tony of Hazelton and Marcia Niemczyk of Stroudsburg; sister, Eleanor Raynock of Weatherly; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 24, 2021, at 11:00 am with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 am from the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 2011 State Route 29, Hunlock Creek, PA 18621 with Rev. Shawn Simchock, officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 am to 11:00 am prior to the funeral services at the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corners of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek. Interment will be in St. John’s R.C. Cemetery, Dallas Township. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Mercy Center, 301 Lake St., Dallas, PA 18621.
