Obituary of Edward William Niezgoda

Edward Niezgoda, age 96 of Lehman, passed away Saturday, May 1, 2021 at home, surrounded by his family while under the care of Residential Hospice. He was born in Larksville on February 2, 1925 and to the late George and Anna Stelmak Niezgoda. He attended Lehman school district. In May of 1945, he enlisted in the US Army, 82nd Airborne. On June 17, 1950, he married Florence Archavage at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at Lake Silkworth. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by son, Dr. Paul Niezgoda; brothers, Frank, John, Joseph, and Leo; sisters, Evelyn Spencer, Mary Derhammer, infant Stella and Dorothy Cooper. Edward is survived by his wife of 70 years, the former Florence Archavage; daughter, Jane Balavage; daughter-in-law, Claudia Niezgoda; grandchildren, Michael Niezgoda and his wife Lisa and Katharine Niezgoda and her husband Rahul Bharucha; great-granddaughter, Jillian Niezgoda; sister, Victoria Swoboda; brother-in-law, Joseph Archavage (Linda); numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek. Memorial contributions, if desired, can be made to: Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 2011 State Route 29, Hunlock Creek, PA 18621, the Back Mountain Memorial Library, 96 Huntsville Rd., Dallas, PA 18612 or an organization of the donor's choice. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Residential Hospice and VA medical teams for the excellent care and comfort provided to Edward and his family.
