Obituary of Elizabeth Ann Calkins

Elizabeth A. Calkins, 62, of Noxen, went to be with her Lord on Saturday Evening, January 23, 2021 as the result of an 8 year battle with ALS. Born in Noxen, she was the daughter of the former Ethel M. Hettesheimer and the late John F. Jones. She was a graduate of Lake-Lehman High School, Class of 1976. She worked in the medical field for many years. Then changing careers and working at Mohegan Sun Casino and Mt. Airy Casino, where she retired in February of 2014 due to health issues. She was a member of St. Luke’s Reformation Lutheran Church, Noxen. Preceding her in death was her husband of 26 years, Steward J. Calkins, who passed away in May of 2020. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her sister, Candy Jones, of Noxen; stepchildren, Shawn and Erin Calkins, both of Plymouth; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Pamela and Michael Uttera, of The Villages in Florida; and many cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends. She is also survived by many cats. A visitation will be held Thursday, January 28, 2021 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek. Interment will be in the Dymond Section of Orcutts Grove Cemetery, Noxen at the family’s convenience. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in her name to The Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 600 Baltimore Drive, Unit 7, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702; or to Patriots Cove, 4334 State Route 29 S, Noxen, PA 18636.
