Obituary of Chester John Dragon

Chester (Chet) John Dragon Sr., age 83 of Harvey's Lake, passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, December 8, 2012. Mr Dragon was born on April 14, 1929 in Luzerne, and was the son of the late Peter and Mary (Okraszewski) Dragon. He was an outstanding football player and graduate of Luzerne High School. He worked for the Blue Ribbon Bakery for 16 years until the closing due to the Agnes flood. He then worked as a carpenter until his retirement. He was a Korean Conflict veteran and attained the rank of Sergeant while serving in the United States Marine Corps. He earned a Bronze Star with a "V" device for valor, Navy Occupation Medal, UN Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with three clusters, National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Post 283, Kingston and was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church, Harvey's Lake. He was an avid sports fan, particularly football and basketball and enjoyed hunting. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 30 years, the former Carolyn Wheatley in 1984; the beloved mother of his three children. His second wife of 8 years, the former Frances Beeunas preceded him in death in 1995. His third wife of 12 years, the former Catherine Ratkaj Koval preceded him in death in 2008. Also preceding him in death was a brother, Leo Dragon and sister, Helen Petroski. Surviving are his children, Chester Dragon Jr. and Debbie of Huntington Mills, Paul Dragon and his wife Denise of Trucksville, Maria Davis and her husband Keith of Harrisburg; grandchildren Dane and Derek Davis, Tyler, Jacob and Alyssa Dragon; brother Peter Dragon of Harvey's Lake; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 13, 2012 at 9:45 AM from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc, corners of routes 29 & 118, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM from Our Lady of Victory Church, Harveys Lake, with Rev. Daniel Toomey officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM. Interment will be in the Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, Dallas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can may be made to Our Lady of Victory Church, R.R. #1, PO Box 309, Harvey's Lake, PA 18618
