Mona Montross, 97, of Lake Township went home peacefully August 12 surrounded by family. She was the daughter of the late Alvin and Ellen Wilson Deater. Mona was known for everything from baking and decorating Christmas cookies, canning, sleigh riding, and swimming to opening her door open to anyone in need. She loved to travel and spend time with her family. She taught Sunday School and Royal Rangers and drove bus for many years and was known as Gram to all the kids. Her strength and faith have always been the rock of our family. She was our guardian angel on Earth and will continue in Heaven. She attended the Tunkhannock Assembly of God Church and Bowman's Creek Free Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Carl Montross Sr. in 2007 and an infant daughter. She was also preceded by brothers: Harvey, Russell and Thomas Deater; sisters: Ethel Sutton, Isabelle Perrin, Henretta Rudolph, June Sorber, Verna Adams, Helen Wilson and Martha Dennis. Surviving are Children: Carl Montross Jr. and Linda of Rio Rancho, NM, Becky Baker of Lake Township, and Cindy Gitschlag of Dallas. Grandchildren: Brian and Maryann Montross, Heidi Montross and Naomi and Spencer Smith all of New Mexico; Brenda and David Kittle, Anita and Kevin Koziol, and Scott Baker all of Lake Township; Jennifer Fuches of Noxen, Pamela and Tom Jesso of Lake Township, and Richard and Amy Krum Jr. of Georgia. She is survived by 16 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sister, Beulah Womer, and numerous nieces and nephews. A private service will be held at the family's convenience. Arrangements are by the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek.
