I am one of the Ryan cousins who spent so many childhood times with the Purcells at Harvey's Lake. Joe was always up to something and we loved to be part of his games. He found fun everywhere! Joe was unique. He was a brave, caring, dynamic man who fought a fierce abattle and will be sorely missed. But when we think of Joe, it will inevitably be with a smile on our faces. God bless Joe, and all who knew him.

I would like to express my sympathies to Joe's family. My father who passed just a few months ago knew Joe and his family for years and talked about what a wonderful and kind man he was.

I remember getting the news that Joe was facing cancer as a young man--but never, ever did I hear him complain about it. As a matter of fact, I really can't remember him talking about it--unless it was to say how his family was pitching in. Instead, I remember him entertaining us one way or another: taking us cousins out for beautiful canoe rides on the Susquehanna--in his brother Jimmy's boat-- or telling stories of the children he'd cared for in Saudi. Like the family he's a part of, Joe was all about putting life's teachings into practice. He will be missed in ways that are impossible to measure. My sympathies to his family and his friends.

To Joe's family, may the precious memories you share give you peace and comfort. I remember Joe from high school. He was always friendly, funny, and full of life. What a blessing he must have been to so many people.

Beautiful remembrances of a life well lived. Joe was an example of taking something negative, like having cancer as a young man, and turning it into a positive: spending your life helping others. I wish I could be with you physically; you are in my thoughts and prayers.

God bless Joe and the life he led, he certainly touched so many lives and as one of his many cousins I'm saddened by his passing but heartened to have so many stories about visits to Harvey's Lake and conversations with him. Rest in peace.
