Obituary of Donald Jones

Donald J. Jones, Sr., age 82 of Chase, passed away Friday, June 22, 2018 at home.

Mr. Jones was born in Wilkes-Barre on January 24, 1936 and was the son of the late Oswald and Josephine Tovey Jones.

Donald graduated from the former Harter High School, West Nanticoke, in 1953. Upon graduation he joined the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1956. He was employed by the PA Department of Corrections as a Hearing Examiner and served for the Jackson Twp. Police Department for 35 years retiring as the Chief of Police. Donald served on the Lake-Lehman School Board for 15 years. He was a 50 year member of the George M. Dallas, Lodge #531. He was also a member of the Caldwell Consistory, Bloomsburg and Irem Temple Shriners. Donald received his Associates Degree in criminal justice from Luzerne County Community College.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jennie, brothers, Thomas and Joseph "Red" Jones.

Donald is survived by sons, Donald J. Jones, Jr. and his wife Cynthia Ide Jones of Sayre and Paul Jones and his wife Anita of Shavertown; daughters, Donna Simpson and her husband Tim of Olyphant and Sandra Orrson of Shavertown; brother, William of Kingston; grandchildren, Timothy, Jennie, Amy, Zachary, Nathan, David, Marina, Mikayla, Erica and Nina.

A memorial service will be held Friday, June 29, 2018 at 11:00 AM from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corners of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek, with Rev. W. James Pall of the Maple Grove United Methodist Church, officiating.

Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Thursday, June 28 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Maple Grove United Methodist Church, 5876 Main Rd, Hunlock Creek, PA 18621.
