Dorothy K. Wadas, age 96 of Shavertown, passed away Monday, July 31, 2017 at the Star Hill Rest Home, Monroe Township. Mrs. Wadas was born in Lake Township on January 1, 1921 and was the daughter of the late Wayne and Mae Ruggles King. Dorothy graduated from the former Laketon High School in 1938 and received her nursing degree from Nesbitt School of Nursing in 1941. She served in the US Army during World War II. While in the service she met and married her late husband, Frank, in Gulfport, MS. Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a very active member of the Shavertown United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and served on its various committees. Dorothy volunteered many years for the American Red Cross and was a life member of the Girl Scouts, where she was a troop leader and an area director. She was also a member of the Harveys Lake Yacht Club and the Nesbitt Alumni Association. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, John, Roy, Donald, Lyle and Ted King. Dorothy is survived by sons, Frank and his wife Patricia of Tunkhannock, David and his wife Jeanne of Moosic and Brian of Harrisburg; daughters, Patricia Snyder and her husband Michael of Shavertown and Wendy Morris and her husband John of Dallas; brother, Richard King of Harding; 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Friends may call 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Thursday, August 3 at Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek. Private future interment will be held at a later date. Dorothy's children would like to thank Dr. Mark Puffenberger and the entire staff at Star Hill Rest Home for their loving care given to their mother. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
