Obituary of Catherine Bernadette Brown

Catherine Burkel Brown, age 72 of Harveys Lake, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at home surrounded by her family. She was born in Pittston on June 1, 1944 and was the daughter of the late Theodore and Margaret Jenkins Burkel. Cathy graduated from Pittston High School in 1961 and was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Dallas for 54 years where she served as an Elder and Deacon. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by sister, Beverly Hoffman, brothers, William, Sheldon, Theodore and Lee Burkel. Cathy is survived by her beloved husband, Al Brown; daughter, Diana Thompson and her husband Kenneth of Myrtle Beach, SC; son, Thomas Davis and his wife Karen of Harveys Lake; step-daughter, Marla Brown of Kingston; grandchildren, Paige and Tyler Thompson of Myrtle Beach, SC and Mackenzie Brown of Kingston; sister, Gail Joest and her husband Frank of Stroudsburg; brother, Kenneth Burkel of West Pittston; sister-in-law, Sybil Burkel of West Pittston; brother-in-law, Paul Brown of Harvard, MA; several nieces and nephews. A private memorial service will be held at a later date from the Trinity Presbyterian Church, Dallas, with Rev. Jennifer Baer and Rev. Roger Griffith, officiating. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are by the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corners of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek.
