Obituary of Joseph George Jiovino

Joseph George Jiovino, age 83 of Harveys Lake, formerly of Plainfield, NJ, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at home. Mr. Jiovino was born in Plainfield, NJ on July 7, 1931 and was the son of the late Floyd and Dorothy Alexander Jiovino. Joe took over his father's barber shop in Plainfield, NJ and ran the business for thirty years after his father retired. He played the piano and organ in various night clubs in the Plainfield area for many years. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving cat, "Miss Peppie", who passed away just moments before Joe did. He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Jane "Cousin Janie" Gunn; brothers, Ed and Fred Gunn and their families; sister, June Updyke of Arizona; feline friend, Mr. B. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 5, 2015 at 11:00 am from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek, with Rev. James Shields, former pastor of the Outlet Free Methodist Church, officiating. Friends may call 10:00 am - 11:00 prior to the service on Friday. Interment will be in Lehman Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be made to SPCA of Luzerne County, 524 E Main St, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
