Several years ago, I read somewhere that one of my favorite songstresses, Peggy Lee, used to whisper “ Sweet dreams and angels on your pillow.” to her daughter every night when tucking her into bed.
It came back to me about twelve years ago when a troubled, battered and neglected little boy, William, came into my life who I would very soon consider to be the best thing to ever happen in my life. A son, not of my blood, but a son none the less. His father and I would tuck him in at night and whisper those sweet words to him and it always seemed to calm his troubled soul. Shortly after he came to be with us he was taken to meet an old woman in a wheelchair whom I was afraid might frighten him but no, not this young man. He ran to her instantly and threw his arms around her and with tears in his eyes told her his grandma had died and gently whispered to her, Will you be my Grandma?” All hearts were melted that day and on Saturday, January 22, 2015 at 3:57pm heaven gained a new angel who I'm sure will visit our William's pillow to sooth his troubled mind and soul. Rest in peace my beloved mother, You will always be the angel on our pillows.
