Obituary of Robert S. Gregory

Robert S. Gregory, Sr., age 93 of Lehman Twp., passed away Thursday, December 11, 2014 at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore, after a long and productive life. Mr. Gregory was born in Trucksville on August 30, 1921 and was the son of the late Earl and Madeline Pettengill Gregory. Robert graduated from Kingston High School in 1939. Prior to WWII, he was a lineman for Sardoni and Co. During WWII he was in the Army Signal Corps involved in radio teletype sector of CBI (China,Burma,India) for communications involved with the air lift over the Himalaya (the hump) to China. Robert achieved the rank of Master Technical Sergeant and a commendation of merit for his services. After his return from overseas, he returned to find his position as a lineman was no longer there. Robert then purchased his uncles potato farm in Lehman Twp. and later turned it into a dairy farm that he operated until the disposal of the dairy herd in 2000. Robert was in love with flying for many years and at the age of 55 he obtained his pilot's license which he used for 30 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Helen Sara Totten Gregory who passed away in 1998, brother, Earl S. Gregory who passed away in 1997, a former area magistrate. Robert is survived by daughters, Sara Louise Gregory of Lehman and Barbara Kohler of Dallas; sons, Robert S. Gregory, Jr. of Sweet Valley, Donald Gregory and his wife Linda of Huntington Mills, and Harry Gregory and his wife Leslie of Tunkhannock; granddaughters, Samantha Mallard and Sara Gregory of Tunkhannock. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at 11:00 am from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek, with Pastor David Wise of God's Missionary Church, Berwick, officiating. Friends may call 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Cedar Crest Cemetery.
