Obituary of Eleanor May Steltz

Eleanor May Steltz, age 91,formerly of Harveys Lake, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2014 in Shickshinny at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Amos and Judy Swire. Mrs. Steltz was born in Wilkes-Barre on September 19, 1923 and was the daughter of the late Almon and Marguerite Wright Rood. Eleanor attended Laketon School and was a longtime member of the Ruggles United Methodist Church. She was proud to have worked in Philadelphia during WWII as a requisition clerk for US warships and submarines. After raising her family, she worked as a person aide in personal care homes and as a companion for her sister. Eleanor was always known for her quiet demeanor and unassuming ways of understanding life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Amos Swire who passed away in 1964 and George Steltz who passed away in 1976; brother, Ralph Rood and sister, Dorothy Capitano. Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Beverly Mussoline and her husband Anthony of Drums; son, Amos Swire and his wife Judith of Shickshinny; granddaughter, Beth Mussoline; grandsons, James Mussoline, Joseph Mussoline, and Christian Swire; great-grandchildren, Madison, Alex, Aleigha, Julia, Jacob, Austin, Jordan, Miranda, Morgan; nieces, Ellen, Joyce, and Cynthia. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 21, 2014 at 11:00 am from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek, with Pastor John Ritchey of the Sunshine Full Gospel Church, Shickshinny, officiating. Friends may call 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Pikes Creek. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
