Obituary of Donald Dendler Smith

Donald Dendler Smith, age 88 of Centermoreland, passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Mr. Smith was born in Wilkes-Barre on January 23, 1926 and was the son of the late Harold and Frances Dendler Smith.
Donald was educated in the Dallas Township Schools and was a 1948 engineering graduate of the Pennsylvania State University. He served in the Corps of Engineers in World War II. Donald taught at the Penn State Wilkes-Barre campus, then was employed in the Engineering Department of Lacy, Atherton and Davis, and in 1953 founded and served as president of Smith, Miller and Associates, Architects, Engineers, and Surveyors until his retirement in 1991.
He was a member of the Tunkhannock United Methodist Church and served as a trustee.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Lawrence Smith; daughter, Donna Miller, and grandson, Brian Holman.
Donald is survived by his wife of 69 years, the former Mildred Kitchen; grandson: David Holman as his wife Katrina of York; brother: Forrest Smith of Beach Haven; great-grandchildren: Zachary and Jacob Holman.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 17, 2014 at 11:00 am from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek, with Pastor Jon Buxton of the Tunkhannock United Methodist Church, officiating.
Friends may call 2-4 PM on Sunday at the funeral home.
Interment will be in the Kocher Cemetery, Lake Twp.
