Obituary of Donald Cory Meade

Donald Cory Meade, age 63 of Noxen, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Twp. Mr. Meade was born in Kingston on June 12, 1951 and was the son of the late Walter and Bessie Matthews Meade. Donald resided in Idetown for 18 years and in Noxen for the last 46 years. He graduated from West Side Vocational Technical School in Pringle and was employed as a sheet metal fabricator for Owens Illinois in Pittston, New Jersey Sheet Metal in Duryea, and retired from Ronco Industries in Lake Winola. While working for New Jersey Sheet Metal he fabricated equipment for the Atlanta Olympic Games in 1996 and also a sculpture at the entrance of the Guggenheim Aerospace Museum in New York City. Donald enjoyed fishing and watching all varieties of motorsports. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, the former Clare Clark; daughters, Donna Hopfer and her husband David of Noxen and Sharyn Chase and her husband Joe of Hunlock Creek; brothers, William Meade and his wife Helen of Florida and Walter Meade, Jr. of Nanticoke; grandchildren, Joseph, Jacob, and Justin Chase, Matthew Hopfer and his wife Sharon, and Garret Hopfer; great-grandchildren, Dominick and Slater Hulse, and Serenity Hopfer. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are by the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corners of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek. The family requests memorial donations to be made to the American Kidney Foundation, National Kidney Foundation,Finance Department,30 East 33rd St. New York, NY 10016 or the Hemodialysis Patient Association of NEPA, 512 Lackawanna Ave, Mayfield, PA 18433.
