Obituary of Ruthann Ryczak

Ruthann Ryczak, age 74 of Dallas, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Commonwealth Hospice inpatient unit in the Regional Hospital of Scranton, having succumbed to an insidious, aggressive cancer. She was born in Mayfield on May 21, 1940 and was the daughter of the late Frank and Caroline Gushar Ryczak, who were the proprietors of a small neighborhood grocery store. Ruthann was a graduate of Mayfield High School, and worked at Daystrom (now Lockheed-Martin), and RCA Dunmore before becoming an Executive Secretary with Pullman-Kellogg in Williamsport. Ruthann was an independent, active women who will be fondly remembered for the great family Fourth of July parties that she hosted at her home that she called "The Farm" because of its rural location. Ruthann was a woman of faith and actively involved at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish in Hunlock Creek. Ruthann liked to travel and especially enjoyed her most recent trip with her sister Nancy by train to the western part of the United States. Ruthann is survived by a brother, Frank, and his wife Mary of Jermyn, PA and her sister, Nancy Petrokonis of Lancaster; She is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, grand nephews and grand nieces; A special thank you to her caregivers, John and Lisa Anglovich of Harveys Lake. John is the nephew of the late Father Edward Zawdniak who was a life-long friend and spiritual counselor to the Ryczak family. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 10:30 AM from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc, corners of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Chuch , Lake Silkworth, with Rev. Richard Fox officiating.
Friends and family may call Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Entombment will be in the mausoleum at St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Ruthann's name to the ASPCA, 524 E Main St, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702 , as Ruthann was an ardent pet owner.
