Obituary of Albert Jay Mott

Please share a memory of Albert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The world lost a great man on May 23, 2014. Albert Jay Mott won his final victory after living a very full life for 89 years. He was born October 8, 1924 in McKendree, PA , to Linden and Sarah Downing Mott. Jay graduated from Huntington Mills High School in 1942 and was inducted into the Army in 1943 serving during WWII. He attained the rank of staff sergeant while serving in the Army Air Force as a flight engineer on a B24 Liberator. This experience started his love of flying and in 1968 he obtained his private pilot's license. The love of flying his planes probably equaled his love of raising his Paso Fino horses that he raised and rode until the age of 85. He attended Colorado A & M college in Fort Collins, CO and Penn State University, State College. Seven years after working as a herdsman in a large dairy in Timnath, CO, Jay realized his dream to own his own farm with the purchase of a dairy farm in Harveyville, Huntington Twp. After retiring from farming, he owned and operated his own businesses including construction and commercial roofing. He was a member of Town Hill United Methodist Church in Town Hill serving the Lord in numerous capacities including singing in the choir, trustee, and he especially enjoyed his mission trip to SC to help the Pee Dee Indians. He also served for many years as a school director for Northwest Area School District, was a member of ASCS, the PA Farmers Association and was a member of the Benton and Orangeville Masonic Lodges. Jay was a kind man with a huge heart and was very social. He enjoyed talking with old and new friends and rarely forgot a face. Jay is survived by his wife of 68 years, the former Eda Stookey. They shared a full life together working side by side on their farm and after retirement enjoyed extensive travel visiting all 50 states in the US and numerous countries. Jay is also survived by sons Eric and Bradley, a daughter, Karen Babcock and her husband Bill, and son Dana and his wife Betsy . He was the proud grandfather of 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren who loved him dearly. He is also survived by sisters, Mabel Kashetta and Eileen Scherer; brothers Gale and Leonard Mott and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were his two older sisters, Lorraine Stookey and Hilda Sheerer. Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 28th at Town Hill United Methodist Church, 417 Town Hill Road, Shickshinny, PA 18655, until the time of the funeral service which will begin at 3:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Harveyville. Pastor Bethany Wood, his pastor, will officiate. Memorial donations, if desired, made be made in Jay's name to Town Hill United Methodist Church, 417 Town Hill Rd., Shickshinny, PA 18655.
