Obituary of Billie Jan Schoen

Billie Jan Schoen, age 79 of Hunlock Creek, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Hospice Community Care, Wilkes Barre. Mrs. Schoen was born in Kilgore, TX on January 30, 1935 and was the daughter of the late Ervin and Idella Ghormley Speir. Jan received her teaching degree in Texas and taught English and speech in various schools and colleges. She lived in Toledo, OH from 1976 until moving to the Lehighton area in 1989 and has resided in Hunlock Creek since 2001. Jan attended Roaring Brook Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Schoen who passed away in 1998; brother, Harvey Speir; sister, Mary Dell May. Jan is survived by sons, Paul H. Schoen and his wife Elizabeth of Ankeny, IA and Michael D. Schoen and his wife Michelle of Hunlock Creek; adopted daughter, Kathleen Loving and her husband James of Bowling Green, OH; and 8 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 11:00 am from the Roaring Brook Baptist Church, 332 Pritchards Rd., Hunlock Creek, PA 18621 with Pastor Dan Brubaker officiating. Interment will be in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Drums. Friends may call 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM prior to the service on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be made to Roaring Brook Baptist Church, 332 Pritchards Rd., Hunlock Creek, PA 18621.
