Dr. Kulp allowed my wife to continue her tennis career. She's 66 and plays 12 months a year which would have been impossible without the procedure that he created. Great personality and very efficient. His patients will miss him, but his family much more. Thank you Dr Kulp.

I am one of the last patients that Dr. Culp performed surgery on. Randy Culp was by far one of the most impressive individuals I have ever had the honor of spending time with. 2 VA doctors were insisting on amputating as surgery was considered impossible. After a few procedures Randy put my hand back together as good as new. The man performed miracles and no man can without assistance from above. God worked through Randy. To all of Randy's loved ones I pray you find comfort in knowing just how truly special this man was and how much he is loved. May Jesus Christ bless your family with comfort and strength as he welcomes Randy home. There is no doubt that Randy is in Heaven. Truly.

Many years ago Dr. Culp came highly recommended to me by a coworker for my son who had torn his UCL at age 17 while pitching in high school. Dr. Culp performed Tommy John surgery and had my son pitching again in nine months (when the normal recovery time was 8 mos) and back for his senior year. We liked Dr. Culp’s decisiveness and confidence.
After that, I started seeing Dr. Culp for my own hand issues which went on for many years. He was always matter fact, straightforward, and his confidence made me feel good about him handling my situation. I had extreme pain in my thumb joint and while performing carpal tunnel release surgery, he removed my thumb joint and replaced it with a metal button and wire, a surgery he told me that not many doctors were doing at that time. A surgery where usually a ligament is taken and used to connect the thumb in your hand, which would have taken three months to recover. In my case, I felt good in two weeks and was back to work in six weeks. I couldn’t have been happier.
When I learned that he had moved to the Wilkesboro area, I thought if I needed anything else done to my hands, I will travel there because he was worth it.
I’ll always remember Dr. Culp and was sorry to hear of his passing.

Throughout many years I took multiple patients to Dr. Culp for diagnosis and treatment recommendations. During that time I shared how I rescued multiple alpacas from owners no longer wanting to care for them. Dr. Culp subsequently informed me his wife Beth was interested in owning a herd of black alpacas. I gave him some wool and a skein of yarn from one of my black alpacas for her. He later informed me they had purchased a farm and planned to build a barn for their alpaca herd. Dr. Culp was always so pleasant and positive and a joy to take patients to him for evaluation.

Over the last decade, I' got to know Randy quite well. We're both hand surgeons, and the two of us lead an annual mission (brigade) to Honduras to provide hand and upper extremity care to Honduran citizens who otherwise would go uncared for.
Randy was not only an extraordinarily talented surgeon but he was loved by his patients and colleagues. He was committed to excellence in patient care; he never gave up. He was a committed educator and taught the Honduran plastic and orthopaedics residents with a passion. He personally financed several Honduran surgeons to come and study with him in the United States allowing them to bring his wisdom back to Honduras. He beamed with positivity and enthusiasm which was inspirational for his trainees and patients. Randy was a role model for everyone, including myself.
I will deeply miss him and know that he is in a better place. I send my deepest condolences to Beth and Randy's family.

To the Culp family,
I was very surprised and saddened by the unexpected loss of this wonderful physician.
I was a patient of Dr Culp for many years during which time, he performed several surgeries on both my hands, including repair of 2 different hand fractures.
What truly set him apart was his good humor, compassion and expertise. I admired the work he did in Honduras helping those kess fortunate human souls. He also understood that I was a guitarist and being a kindred musician, he made sure hat I could play again.
I am indebted to this incredible man and I hope that words, such as these, along with all your precious memories of him, might somehow lessen the burden of your loss.
With gratitude,

We have known Randy and Beth since our days together at Oakland Naval Hospital over 30 years ago. Randy was an excellent teacher and mentor, but an even better person and friend. He was always available to help take care of my many professional athletes and my son with hand and wrist problems. He was at the pinnacle of his field. We are very saddened by his passing and pray he will be in everlasting peace and that God blesses Beth, Anne, Jonathan, Will, and families. He will be missed.

Dr. Culp was an amazing orthopedic surgeon. He helped me tremendously with his expert carpal tunnel release surgery. It’s been nearly 8 years since he performed the surgery and my hands still feel great. It’s so sad that he was taken at such a young age and I will never forget how he helped me. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

I am just One of the many patients that Dr. Culp has helped over the years, but was shocked to see the news of his passing. I was involved in a car accident Towards the end of 2023, and the same week in which I was hurt, I received a message from Geisinger that I would have an appointment with Dr. Culp. Naturally, I googled him, and after about 30 seconds, I found that he pretty much wrote the book on various procedures involved in hand surgery. Obviously, I was relieved that Such a specialist lived right in my backyard. When I met him, he somehow gave the impression, of having all the time in the world just for me and my broken hand, while obviously only somehow managing to squeeze me into his very busy schedule. He smiled, and said that “you know, if you are seeing me, then we are discussing surgery as the best option.” We discussed, the different possibilities, and I obviously deferred to his judgment. He made time to answer any and all questions, and at no time did I feel rushed, Despite his obviously very busy schedule. Two titanium screws later, and almost a year later, I still think of him often as I’m able to use my hands Again. May his family be comforted, and his memory be a blessing.

I I suffered an open distal radius fracture of my wrist late April. Dr. Culp was my surgeon. I was so scared because I lost all feeling in most of my fingers. He just performed my final surgery on July 17, 2024. Although I had only met him probably 5 times, he was the most caring, intelligent, and funny person. I felt and knew I was in such good hands with him. He would try to calm my anxiety at appointments with his knowledge. This man was so loved and appreciated. I can tell that just by the things people said about him. My original surgeon sung the praises of him and told me I was in the best hands! I am so incredibly sorry for his families loss, coworkers, friends and patients that loved him. He was definitely one of a kind and extremely memorable. My condolences to everyone that loved him. May his memory be a blessing.

Dear Beth, Anne, Jon, Will and family,
We are so saddened to learn of Randy’s passing. We met Randy at the College of William and Mary and he became a great friend there. He was such a smart guy and an extremely dedicated/successful student. He was also so much fun to be around- a true adventurous soul. We shared so many laughs and good times together!
Several years after graduation, we reconnected with Randy when he settled in the Philadelphia area as a surgeon at the Philadelphia Hand Center. In addition to operating on 3 members of our family (one twice) he generously provided the opportunity for one of our daughters to intern with him one summer which culminated in a medical mission trip to Honduras. Inspired by the commitment to excellence she saw by the medical team at the Philadelphia Hand Center, Kelsea pursued her M.D. and is now doing a Pediatric Intensive Care fellowship at Johns Hopkins.
In our conversations with Randy over the years he shared how proud he was of his family. We can only imagine how difficult his sudden passing is for all of you, especially Beth. We pray for strength for your family as you move forward together. The Memorial Scholarship fund that you have established in Randy’s honor is such a fitting tribute to the incredible medical/scientific legacy that his talent and innovative spirit made possible.
Sincerely,
Maryanne and Rick Smith

Dr. Randall Culp is not just my doctor; he is a friend, family member, and a god to me. I met Dr. Culp on February 18, 2014, and since then, he has operated on my hand eight times. On July 11th, I met him again, and he scheduled a procedure for September 9th. I showed him pictures of my newborn baby, and he was very happy. Without Dr. Culp, I wouldn't be here today. He is one of the best people in my life.
Recently, I received a call from the hospital informing me that Dr. Culp was on FMLA and my surgery was canceled. I told them I would wait until he returned, but they couldn’t provide a definite answer. They attempted to schedule an appointment with another doctor, but I was frustrated and insisted on waiting for Dr. Culp. The hospital staff said they couldn’t reveal when or if he would be back, citing privacy concerns. They told me to check the news the next day. Since 4 AM today, I’ve been searching the internet for any news but found nothing.
At last, somehow I found news on the internet around 4 PM EST, and my heart is broken. I don't think he ever spend time and research on anyone more than he spend on me. For one of my task, He traveled to Europe and proved his research and after seeing the outcome FDA approved it. I am deeply missing Dr. Culp and cannot understand why God took this decision. Like me, many people are in a sorrowful condition. Dr. Culp's compassion, skill, and dedication have left a lasting impact on all of us. He will always be remembered and cherished for the remarkable person and doctor he was.
Thank you, Dr. Culp, for your unwavering dedication and exceptional care. Your expertise and compassion have made an incredible difference in my life and the lives of many others. You will always live in my memories and be a part of my life.

So very compassionate. He took great care of me and, I’m sure, all of his patients. It took a long time to get to see him, but it was worth it. He was known and respected far and wide.
