Albert Eugene "Gene" Holcomb, age 68 of Sweet Valley, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at home.
He was born in Kingston on October 25, 1955 and was the son of the late Cletus and Kathryn "Jean" Ballantine Holcomb.
Gene graduated from Lake-Lehman High School, class of 1973. He worked for Evans Asphalt, several other construction companies, was the maintenance supervisor for Fetch's Market for several years and then worked as a self-employed contractor. Gene was also very uniquely skilled at dowsing for wells. He was also the president and caretaker for the Maple Grove Cemetery for over 7 years. Gene was a compassionate man who was always willing to help those in need. He was a member of the Living Word Baptist Church, Sweet Valley. Gene was an avid hunter and fisherman. In his younger years, he also enjoyed coaching softball, and more recently, attending his grandkids sporting events including volleyball, basketball, softball and little league. Gene was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Cletus "Sandy" Holcomb.
Gene is survived by his wife of 28 years, Kimberly Holcomb; children, Kelly Donnelly (Joe), Adam Holcomb, Casey Holcomb (Kayla), and Tony Bilwin; step-son, Tommy Adams; grandchildren, Madelynn and Garrett; and step-grandchildren, Morgan, Deven, and Aspen.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 10:00 AM from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek, with Pastor Raymond Purdy of the Living Word Baptist Church, officiating.
Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Lake Twp.
