Obituary of Lee Donald McMurtrie

Lee D. McMurtrie, age 84 of Hunlock Creek, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at his home. He was born in Mifflinville and was the oldest of 3 boys, to the late Thomas and Geraldine McMurtie. Lee was a 1959 graduate of Nescopeck High School and was a member of Camp Lebo in Clinton County for 51 years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 495 and the North American Hunting Club. Lee enjoyed spending time at Camp Lebo with his friends, Jack and Chip. He also enjoyed hunting, watching cowboy movies and WWE with his youngest granddaughter. Lee hardly missed a dance competition, horse show or sporting event that his granddaughters were involved in. He proudly served his country in the US Navy as an Air Crewman assigned to Fleet Tactical Support Squadron One in Patuxent River, MD from 1962-1966. Over the years, Lee worked for various companies spending the most time as a truck driver and later retired from Berwick Industries in 2000. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by step-father, Clifford Mowery; step-brother, Lee Mowery; grandson, Gage Mooney. Lee is survived by his wife of 42 years, Grace (Sorber) McMurtrie; daughters, Wendy Keefer of Berwick, Tammy Stidsen and her husband Erik of Sebastian FL and Leann Everett and her husband Brian of Shickshinny; grandchildren, Rich Keefer and his wife Krista of Berwick, Kristy Keefer and her significant other Fred of Bloomsburg and Abigail and Madilyn Everett; 9 great-grandchildren; brothers, Rich McMurtrie and his wife Linda of Berwick and Tom McMurtrie and his wife Charlene of Bloomsburg; numerous nieces and nephews. As per Lee's wishes, he will be cremated, and a private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek.
