George A. Hoeffner, age 75 of Broadway, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Wilkes-Barre on May 27, 1949 and was the son of the late George W. and Eileen Carver Hoeffner. George grew up in Plymouth Township, later moving to Hunlock Creek. He graduated from the 1967 Class of Northwest High School, and earned his bachelor's degree from Wilkes College in 1972. George taught for 35 years at Hunlock Creek Elementary School in the Northwest Area School District. He loved his students, his colleagues, and his classroom, which was a second home to him. George was an original Trekkie, enjoyed classic cars, science, watching westerns, especially Clint Walker, and spending time outdoors. He was also a Bloomingdale Grange member. George loved his family, especially his 2 grandchildren who held a special place in his heart. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Frederick Hoeffner; and foster sister, Debra Cline. George is survived by his wife of 53 years, the former Barbara Stevens; sons, Todd Hoeffner (Katie) of Kingston, Joel (Jennifer) of Bedford, VA, and Ryan (Maria) of Broadway; grandchildren, Cheyenne and Alexander; sister, Debra Moore of Bloomsburg; foster sister, Marti Bagley of Maryland; and many other family members. Private Funeral Services will be held at the convenience of the family from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek, with retired Pastor Gregory Moore officiating. Visitation will be Monday, June 10, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Private Interment will be in Bloomingdale Cemetery, Ross Township Online condolences can be made at clswansonfuneralhome.com The family would like to offer special thanks to the staff of Geisinger Wyoming Valley Heart Hospital and Compassus Hospice for the kind and loving care they showed George; they are all truly gold star worthy.
