She was born in Bradford, PA on August 12, 1938, and was the daughter of the late Albert and Wilma Warden Schierer.
Wilma was known to her family and friends as Peach, a nickname bestowed upon her by a nurse when she was born. She grew up in Bradford, PA. Whenever she had free time, Peach could be found somewhere in the neighborhood playing tennis or basketball, riding her horse or hiking in the fields and woods around Bradford. She also spent many a winter's day flying down the mountainside at the old Zippo Ski Slope. Upon graduating from Bradford High School, Peach attended East Stroudsburg State where she majored in Health and Physical Education. She was a star tennis player and received many accolades such as "Outstanding Player" while winning a few college championships along the way. After graduating, Peach taught Health and Phys Ed in Adams County for a year. She spent the rest of her career teaching Health and Phys Ed classes and coaching various team sports at Lake Lehman High School. Students remember "Miss Schierer" for her fairness and discipline, her athleticism and her unique sense of humor. She was the head girls basketball coach. She often coached her teams to winning seasons and a few local championships too. She also coached field hockey when the head coach was on sabbatical. After retiring from Lake Lehman, Peach took her love of coaching and tennis to Kings College in Wilkes Barre, PA where she coached tennis for several years. She also coached the Kings College womens softball team when no softball coach was available.
