Obituary of Roger Jay Whitesell

Roger J. Whitesell, age 76 of Sweet Valley , passed away Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Mountain City Health and Rehab Center, Hazel Township, PA. He was born in Sweet Valley on May 16, 1947 and was the son of the late Fred R. and Jean Hannis Whitesell. Roger graduated from Lake-Lehman High School, Class of 1964. He was a lifelong carpenter. Roger was an avid guitar player and was in several bands with his brother, Fred. He also enjoyed woodworking and was a loving father and husband. Roger attended the Community Bible Church in Sweet Valley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Fred Whitesell, Jr. and Lenore Cragle Frazier; and several nieces and nephews. Roger is survived by sons, Matthew VanGorder and Chris VanGorder, both of Dallas; daughter, Ruth Whitesell and her partner, Greg of Wilkes-Barre; siblings, Carol Grabowski of Berwick, Leon Whitesell and his wife Lavonna of Oklahoma City, OK, Anne Britt and her husband Richard of Sweet Valley, John Whitesell and his wife Eileen of Haskell, OK, Alice Temple of Berwick and Janet Hartzel and her husband Randy of Nescopeck; grandchildren, Matthew, Alyssa, Casey, and Delilah; and several nieces nephews and cousins»(Do not delete this line.
