Alvin "Peanuts" Long, age 96 of Benton, passed away Sunday, April 30, 2023 at home.



He was born in Shickshinny on August 29, 1926 and was the son of the late Lewis and Lucreta Long.



Alvin was a World War II Army veteran; upon returning home he went to work for Acme markets, retiring after 41 years of service. He was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan and enjoyed hunting and horseshoes. Alvin umpired 4 little league games every Saturday for 13years at the Dallas Little League Fields. He also pitched horseshoes all over the country winning one world championship and winning multiple state titles; he was inducted into the Pennsylvania Horseshoe Pitchers Hall of Fame in 1991.



In addition to his parents, Alvin was preceded in death by his brother, Vic Long; sisters, Alice Hunter and Hilda Yeager; and step-sons, Joey Barchik & Johnny Barchik.



Surviving are his wife of 41years, Jean Long; son, Brent Long & his wife Donna; daughter Romaine Barchik & her fiancé JR Cole; and step-granddaughter, Mackenna



There will be no services as per Peanut's request.



Arrangements are by the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek.
