Obituary of Catherine Louise Hawk

Catherine Louise Hawk, age 87 of Broadway, passed away peacefully Tuesday April 4, 2023 with her family at her side after a courageous battle with cancer.

 

She graduated from Shickshinny High School in 1953 and was known as "Cay" to her classmates. Catherine had a great love of reading and was often seen in a comfortable chair with her cat on her lap and a book in her hand. She had a special gift of gardening, and her beautiful flower beds were a joy to see each summer in full bloom. Catherine truly had a heart of gold and her love of animals was unmatched, leaving snacks for all her backyard friends each and every night after supper. She was known for her quick wit and quiet disposition.

 

Catherine proudly served in the United States Air Force (WAF). She was stationed at multiple locations finishing her career at Selfridge Air Station, Michigan. After her honorable service, she then worked for Bell Telephone until her retirement. She was a long time member of the Sweet Valley Church of Christ. While Catherine never had children of her own, she was well loved by many nieces and nephews.

 

She is survived by sister, Ida Jean Stacey; nieces and nephews, Eric Stacey, with whom Catherine resided, Richard J. (RJ) Stacey, Paula Calfisch, and Linda McGettigan; many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

 

Catherine was preceded in death by sister, Reda Nevel and niece, Jeannine Barry.

 

A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Bloomingdale Cemetery, Sweet Valley.

 

Arrangements are by the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek.
