Obituary of Betty C. Newberry

Betty Sutton Gosart Newberry, age 96 of Sweet Valley, passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at the Kingston Rehab and Nursing Center.

She was born at the Outlet Section of Harveys Lake on October 7, 1926 and was the daughter of the late John and Florence Ashburner Sutton.

Betty worked in Binghamton, NY for a short time and was also employed by the Wilson Hospital for 10 years in Johnson City, NY. She married her first husband, Charles Gosart in 1969 until he passed in 1979. She later married George Newberry on July 15, 1989 and both were proprietors of the Sweet Valley Golf Course. George passed away on May 19, 2000. Betty was a member of the Outlet Free Methodist Church, Harveys Lake.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Betty was preceded in death by brothers, Robert and George Sutton; sister, Clara Sutton Lockwood.

She is survived by numerous nieces and newphews.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 1:30 PM from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek, with her nephew, Rev. David Banks, Jr. , officiating.

Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 1:30 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.

Private interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Lake Twp.
