Obituary of Treva Shirley Traver

Treva Shirley Traver, age 79 of Noxen, was accepted into the waiting arms of the Lord on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas.
Treva was born in Kingston on December 1, 1933 and was the daughter of the late Robert and Lucy Hoover Traver.
Treva was a loving sister, daughter, and friend to many. She was loved dearly and will be missed greatly. Treva was devoted to the people she loved and had an unyielding sense of loyalty to her work. Her compassion and commitment to family and friends will be her legacy! Her dedication will be felt for years to come.
Treva was a 1951 graduate of Laketon High School and was a lifelong resident of Noxen prior to becoming a guest at the Village of Greenbriar. She was employed by Commonwealth Telephone Company for 40 years.
She was a member of the Ruggles UM Church, and the Outlet Free Methodist Church, and was a Sunday school teacher for 20 years. She was also a member of the Harveys Lake Women's Service Club, the Luzerne County Federation of Women's Clubs, served as President of the Women's Club Literation, she was named among the Outstanding Young Women of America, was also a member of the Northeast District of Pennsylvania Federation of Women's Clubs, served on the Luzerne County Bicentennial Committee, belonged to the Commonwealth Belles, and the Commonwealth Sunshine Club. Treva enjoyed animals and nature,playing softball, basketball, playing in the band, and singing in the chorus. She was a member of the Orpheus Society, she graduated Valedictorian and May Queen of the Laketon Class of 1951.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a 2 years old daughter, Debby Elaine, and nephews, Tracey Slocum, Jack Swire, and Ronald Swire.
Treva is survived by her sisters: Marilyn Swire Neifert of Loyalville and Charlotte Slocum and her husband Ernest (Bud) of Lehman; nephews: Jack Swire and his wife Gwen and Ernest Slocum and his wife Lisa; nieces: Cindy Slocum and Susie Tripony and her husband Michael; grandnieces: Cassidy and Samantha; grandnephews: Matthew, Ian, and Cody.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 28, 2013 at 11:00 AM from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corners of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek, with Pastor James Ho well, retired, of the Northmoreland Baptist Church, Centermoreland, officiating.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 2 - 4 PM and 6 - 8 PM at the funeral home.
Interment will be in the Wardan Cemetery, Dallas Twp.
