Obituary of Elizabeth "Betty" Rakowski

Elizabeth "Betty" Rakowski, age 77 of Sweet Valley, passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Twp. She was born in Wilkes-Barre on November 2, 1944 and was the daughter of the late John and Mary Kanjorski. Betty graduated from Nanticoke High School and received her Associates Degree from Wilkes-Barre Business College. She was employed at Blue Cross, Wilkes-Barre, and later at Lake-Lehman School District and Wee Care Foundation, Sweet Valley. She kept busy volunteering with Lake-Lehman High School Band where she was a band parent. Betty enjoyed riding on the Harley with her husband, and was a Mystic Sea Port Junkie. Betty is survived by her husband of 45 years, Pat Rakowski; daughters, Kathy McTernan and husband John of Norwood, MA, and Jennifer Rakowski of Carlisle, PA; grandchild, Brendan McTernan; brother, Paul Kanjorski and wife Karen of Nanticoke; and nieces, Kristen Mazanec and Kendal Smith. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 12th at 9:30 AM from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 2011 State Route 29, Hunlock Creek, PA 18621. Visitation will be from 8:30 to 9:30 AM prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Mary's Byzantine Cemetery, Dallas. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Susan B. Coleman Foundation, 13770 Noel Road, Suite 801889, Dallas, TX 75380.
