Obituary of Ruth Zeek

Ruth A. Zeek, age 90 of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Sunday, October 24, 2021 at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Twp. She was born in Wilkes-Barre on August 12, 1931 and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Mikula. Ruth attended GAR High School and worked in the Wyoming Valley Garment Industry at Val Kare and Leslie Fay and was a lifetime member of the ILGWU. She was a former member of the Trucksville Free Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, youth director and superintendent. Ruth also attended Cross Creek Community Church. A big part of her youth was roller skating, where she met her husband, Bill. Ruth also loved country music, traveling, bowling, camping, bingo, was an avid card player and enjoyed playing board games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved cooking Sunday dinners for her family and yearly baking of her special anise Christmas cookies for the entire family. Ruth was honored in the past year at her 90th birthday party as the matriarch of her family. She was a loving and outgoing mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, affectionately known as Mom, Nan and Aunt Ruthie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband of 47 years, William, who passed away in 1997; and her siblings. Ruth is survived by sons, Ronald W. of Dallas, Curtis W. (Sandra) of Wilkes-Barre Twp., Rick A. (Ronald) of Santa Cruz, CA; daughter, Cathy Lynn Han(Phil) of Lititz; grandchildren, Amethyst, Roberta, Shannon, Robert, Megan, and Bethany; great-grandchildren, Jade, Liam, Logan, Aislin, Kaylee, Augustus, and Christopher; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 28, 2021 at 11:00 am from the Cross Creek Community Church, 370 Carverton Rd., Trucksville, PA 18708, with Pastor Dave Martin, officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek. Interment will be in the Memorial Shrine Park, Franklin Twp.
