Obituary of Dorothy M. Gryziec
Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dorothy Gryziec, 92, of Shavertown, passed away peacefully at
Celtic Hospice on Friday, August 12, 2016. God needed a special angel,
so he called Dorothy home to her eternal reward. She is now in heaven
with the love of her life, her husband of 65 years, Joe, who passed in 2010.
Born on January 29, 1924, in Reyburn, she was a daughter of the late
Robert and Harriet Morgan Belles. Dorothy lived in the small community
of Reyburn for the first 86 years of her life, before moving to Shavertown.
Dorothy was a graduate of Shickshinny High School, where she was a
proud member of the cheerleading squad. After high school Dorothy went
to work at American Car and Foundry in Berwick. This was during World War II
when it was common to work twelve hours per day, seven days per week.
She later worked for 20+ years at Consolidated Cigar Corp. in Berwick.
Dorothy missed her calling. She would have been a great politician. She
could walk up to a total stranger, talk to them for ten minutes, put a smile
on their face, and walk away with a friend for life. To know her was to love her.
The most important thing in Dorothy's life was always family. She was a loving
and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. No sacrifice was
too great when family was involved.
Dorothy will be greatly missed by family, friends, and neighbors. Her memory will
live on in everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. In the future, when you
think of her, Dorothy would want a smile to come to your face, rather than a tear
to your eye.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was also preceded in death by brothers
William Belles, and John Belles, also sisters Nancy Belles Celon, and Rose Belles Gryziec.
She is survived by daughter, Harriet Champi and her husband, Frank, of Cumberland, R.I.
and Indian Rocks, FL.; son, Joseph M. Gryziec, Jr. and his wife, Sharon, of Shavertown;
grandsons, Christopher Champi and his wife Merritt, Jay Champi and his wife Amy, all of
Cumberland, R.I.; granddaughter, Heather Yore and her husband Adam, of Columbia, MO.;
great-granddaughters, Morgan and Mallory Champi, Addison and Lillian Yore,;
and great-grandson, Peter Champi; as well as various nieces; nephews; and many loving
friends and neighbors.
Funeral will be held at noon Friday, August 19, 2016 from the Curtis L. Swanson
Funeral Home, Inc., corner of Routes 29 & 118, Pikes Creek, with calling hours from
10 a.m. until noon, prior to the service. A private interment will follow at the
Fern Knoll Burial Park, Dallas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to
the Reyburn Bible Church, 77 Reyburn Road, Shickshinny, Pa.,18655.
