Obituary of LeRoy Harold Newell

LeRoy H. Newell, age 76 of Noxen, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at the Kingston Health Care Center. Mr. Newell was born in Wilkes-Barre on August 5, 1939 and was the son of the late Roy C. and Rose Butry Newell. LeRoy graudated in 1957 from Lake-Noxen High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. He was a lifetime member of Limited 20 Gun Club, Noxen, Labor Local 158, Wilkes Barre, Local 542 Operating Engineers, Wilkes Barre, Local 369 Operating Engineers, Memphis, TN, Local 627 Operating Engineers, Tulsa, OK, Local 406 Operating Engineers, New Orleans, LA, Pipeliners Local 798, Tulsa, OK and former member of the George M. Dallas Lodge # 531. He also served as Noxen Township supervisor. LeRoy was employed by Henkel's and McCoy Pipeline, Norman, OK for 33 years, retiring 20 years ago. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. LeRoy enjoyed working on the family farm. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Patricia Newell. LeRoy is survived by his wife of 49 years, the former Betty Kovalick; daughters, Lisa Newell and her fiancé James Finnegan of Noxen, Rhonda Hummel and her husband Edward of Noxen, Stacie Nulton and her husband Dean of Sweet Valley, Nicole Chipego and her husband Matthew of Noxen; brothers, Charles Newell of Kunkle and Richard Newell of Noxen; grandchildren, Alaisha, Steven, Roy Travis, Sarah, Maverick, and Hannah; great-granddaughter, Annli. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 7, 2016 at 12:00 pm from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek, with Pastor Ben Hubbel of the Noxen Bible Baptist Church, officiating. Friends may call 2-4 PM on Sunday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Orcutt's Grove Cemetery, Noxen.
