Obituary of Ronald Lee Thomas

Ronald L. Thomas, Sr., age 84 of Hunlock Creek, went home to Heaven on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Thomas was born in Hunlock Creek on December 12, 1931 and was the son of the late William and Frances Bonham Thomas. Ron graduated from the former Lehman High School in 1949 and served in the US Army as a Sergeant First Class during the Korean Conflict. He signed a minor league professional baseball contract with the Baltimore Orioles. Ron was employed at the State Correctional Institution, Dallas for 12 years and retired as a guard at the Pennsylvania State University, Wilkes-Barre campus. He enjoyed the outdoors including hunting and running his dogs. Ron could be found many of his days in the farm fields shooting woodchucks for local farmers. He was a lifetime member of the NRA and Living Word Baptist Church, Fairmount Twp. Friends called him the "Legend". Ron is survived by sons, William Thomas of Nanticoke, Lance Thomas and his wife Rebekah of Hunlock Creek, and Ronald Thomas, Jr. and his wife Kyleen of Hunlock Creek; daughters, Abbylee Cox and her husband Kenneth of Flora, IN and Leslie Plesnar and her husband Steven of Dallas; twin brother, Richard Thomas of Sweet Valley and brother, Paul Thomas of Sweet Valley; sister, Cheryl Thomas of Sweet Valley; grandchildren, Janelle, John, Melanie, Cody, Cierra, Hannah, Josiah, Benjamin, Edith, Brady, Liam, and Saoirse; great-grandchildren, Colbi, Kenlee, and Noah; numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 17, 2016 at 7:00 pm from the Living Word Baptist Church, 40 Hess Lane, Sweet Valley, PA 18656 with Rev. Raymond D. Purdy, Jr., officiating. Friends may call 5:00 PM -7:00 PM on Thursday prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are by the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be made to Living Word Baptist Church, 40 Hess Lane, Sweet Valley, PA 18656. See ya Ron.
