Mrs. Donna Rae Gavlick, age 79, residing in Greenbriar Village, Dallas, passed away unexpectedly at her home on December 6, 2023. Born on October 8, 1944, in Berwick, Donna was the daughter of the late Carl and Mary Horvat Hinkle. Her cherished husband, Edward, predeceased her on February 26, 1976. Donna leaves behind a legacy through her two beloved children: Christine Ann Masters, wife of Eric, Harvey's Lake, and Edward S. Gavlick Jr., husband of Renae. Her memory is further treasured by grandchildren Collin and Morgan Masters, and Edward and Dylan Gavlick. Surviving family includes her sister, Jean (Hinkle) Lehman, York, brothers Carl M Hinkle and his wife Patricia, Bloomsburg; William A and Sue Hinkle, Robert E. Hinkle, Ronald I Hinkle, and Jim L Hinkle, all from Berwick, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Brother-in-law Danny Shisson, Sweet Valley and sister-in-law Peggy Gavlick, Swoyersville. Sisters-in-law who have passed are Mary Hinkle, wife of Robert and Donna Hinkle, wife of Jim and Rosemary, wife of Danny Shisson and brother-in-law, Stanley, husband of Peggy Gavlick. A graduate of Berwick High School, she was a cheerleader and was crowned homecoming queen. She met her life partner, Edward, while working at the Pentagon in Washington DC. She continued her education at Bloomsburg State College graduating with honors. After college, she served as a substitute teacher at Lake Lehman High School and later retired from Offset Paperback Manufacturing Inc as an assistant controller. An active member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Lake Silkworth, Donna contributed to various church events and fundraisers. At night she would read passages from the bible. She also served as the secretary of the Greenbriar Village HOA, dedicating herself to numerous community projects. Donna's love for gardening was evident in the vibrant flowers and plants she nurtured. She embraced a healthy lifestyle, engaging in bodybuilding, yoga, and promoting overall fitness. Disco dancing was always a favorite in her younger days. Donna always looked forward to the annual beach trips with her family and loved boating with her children along the Maryland coastline. She loved the many animals in her life, including Monay, Shammy, Bear, Gordon, Leo, Mya, Tucco, Princess, Bubbles, Onyx, and Boone and they waited for Donna's treats. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at 9:30 from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek, with A Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am from the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 2011 PA-29, Hunlock Creek, PA 18621 with Rev. Brian Van Fossen, officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 12, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the funeral home. Private interment will be in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery at a later date.
