Obituary of Emily Grace Longmore

Please share a memory of Emily to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Emily Grace Longmore, 3, of Monroe Township, slipped out of our arms and into the arms of her Heavenly Father on November 14th after a courageous 11-month battle against neuroblastoma (a rare form of childhood cancer). She was born on November 28, 2014 in Wilkes-Barre.

Our brave little princess fought with a strength and courage that would rival the most valiant of heroes. Emily never complained throughout her battle. Through 6 rounds of chemotherapy, 4 rounds of immunotherapy, 2 stem cell transplants and multiple medical procedures and surgery, she always had a smile on her face and joy in her heart.

Emily loved people, and she lived every day to the fullest. During her many hospital stays, Emily loved making friends with her nurses. Her sweet character quickly endeared her to many. When she was enduring something difficult, she would console us by saying, "it's okay, it's not your fault". Though Emily's time with us was too short, we are so thankful to the Lord for the wonderful blessing of nearly four years with her.  She was a shining example of patience, joy, understanding, perseverance and love.

Emily loved animals, the movie Frozen, and bacon mac and cheese. She loved playing veterinarian and doctor with her big sister Lily, playing outside with her big brother Ben, taking care of her doggie Maggie and cuddling with Mommy and Daddy. Though our lives are forever changed, they are richer and forever blessed because of her.

Emily leaves behind her parents Joshua and Kristina (Dutko) Longmore, her brother Benjamin, and sister Lily, Monroe Township; grandparents Robert and Darlene Longmore, Monroe Township and Diane Dutko, Bear Creek; uncle Jonathan and aunt Heather Dutko and cousin Ethan, Bear Creek; and uncle Mark and aunt Sarah Longmore and cousins Dash and Rush, Noxen. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, David Dutko, Bear Creek.

We will be forever grateful to Emily's pediatrician Dr. Rubina Zaman, who worked to quickly direct us to experts for a diagnosis; to Dr. Ramdas, Dr. Miller, Dr. Yohannes, Dr. Troutman, Becky Sneidman, and the dear nurses and staff who provided our daughter with outstanding care and compassion at Geisinger Danville; and to Dr. Bagatell, Dr. Leibowitz, Dr. Wray, the PICU doctors and the compassionate nurse practitioners and nurses who went above and beyond to help our sweet Emily fight her toughest battle at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.  We are also overwhelmingly grateful for the generosity and love of so many friends, family members, and people in our community who have shown us such kindness throughout our difficult journey.

A private burial was held on November 21st with immediate family.  A celebration of Emily's life will be held on November 28th at 6:00 pm at High Point Baptist Church, 1919 Mountain Road, Larksville, PA. We ask that those who attend wear bright colors as Emily loved color and rainbows. In lieu of flowers and in honor of Emily's 4th birthday, we will be collecting unwrapped toys at the celebration service to be donated to Janet Weis Children's Hospital and the Pediatric Oncology Clinic at Geisinger, Danville. Donations can also be made to the Emily Grace Longmore Fund of the Luzerne Foundation, 34 South River Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
