Obituary of Shirley Mae Hontz

Shirley M. Hontz, age 73 of Sweet Valley, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 28, 2017 at home, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Hontz was born in Paterson , NJ on June 21, 1943 and was the daughter of the late William and Pearl Martin Benscoter. Shirley lived in Sweet Valley for most of her life and graduated from the former Harter High School in 1961. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, crafts and Christmas. Her life revolved around taking care of her family. Shirley's sweet personality and kind disposition attracted many friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sister, Marjorie Benscoter. Shirley is survived by husband of 55 years, Clifford Hontz; daughters, Beverly Morris and her husband Charles of Sweet Valley and Melissa James and her husband Brian of Jackson Twp.; son, Bradford Hontz of Dallas; sisters, Beverly DeHaven of White Haven and Mary Schramm of Plymouth; grandchildren, Candice, Kristine, Charles, Catherine, Brandon, Destin, Jared, Kyle and Justin; great-grandchildren, Jacklyn and Raylen. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at 7:00 PM from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek, with Rev. Raymond D. Purdy, Jr. of the Living Word Baptist Church, officiating. Friends may call from 5 PM – 7 PM prior to the service.
