Sandra Lee Sheruda Obituary
Sandra Lee Walters Sheruda, 78, of Englewood, Florida, and formerly Nanticoke, Pa, passed away in the comforting arms of her loving husband of 51 years, Joseph Sheruda, on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Lake Silkworth, Pa.
Sandi was born on March 31, 1948, in Nanticoke, Pa. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Isabelle Wasilewski Walters. Sandi graduated from Nanticoke High School class of 1966. She earned her BA & MS degrees from Wilkes College. Sandi's passion for children was exemplified with her decades as an educator. She served locally at Nanticoke and Northwest school districts, as well as Saint Joseph, Missouri. She was proud to be recognized as the first woman president of the Greater Nanticoke Chamber of Commerce.
Sandi's heart best depicted her. Her love for others affected an endless number of people that will never be forgotten. The children of Lake Silkworth knew her as "The Candy Lady". She loved to spoil the neighborhood kids with ice pops and candy. Her kindness and volunteer work followed her to Florida, in her Foxwood neighborhood. Sandi led the organization of numerous community events like The Foxwood Thanksgiving Dinner. Her planning would begin in August as she spent endless hours making arrangements for set up and meal deliveries to those who were physically unable to attend. She believed everyone deserved a meal and company on that day. She was adored by her Foxwood and Lake Silkworth communities, and she loved them more in return.
She was proudest of being the mother of her two boys. Sandi never missed a sporting event they played in. Either cheering from the bleachers or yelling from the edge of a wrestling mat, she loved traveling the country to watch them compete.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved brother, Hank Walters.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Joseph Sheruda; sons, J.H. Sheruda and his wife, Amanda, and Derek Sheruda and his fiancée, Sarah Kosek; grandsons, Avery and Logan; granddaughter, Layla; sister-in-law, Linda Walters; nephews, Nathan and David Walters; great-nephews, Andrew and Lucas Walters; sister-in-law, Ruth Shaulis; niece, Nicole Sotak; great-niece, Zoe Robertson, and great-nephew, Leo Robertson.
There will be a private service held for the family in the future.
Sandi loved animals, it is requested to donate to any shelter you prefer.
The family wishes you share Sandi's kindness, by being grateful and telling a family member, friend, neighbor, or stranger, that you love them.
Arrangements are by the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek.
