F. Charles Petrillo Obituary

F. Charles Petrillo, Esquire, died peacefully on Sunday, October 12, after a brief illness.



He is survived by his wife, Marion Boyle Petrillo; son, Matthew; grandchilden, Henry and Dylan and daughter-in-law, Jennifer; and sister, Rosemary Petrillo Sarna.



He is preceded in death by his mother, Elsie Oney Petrillo; his father, Florie and brother, Clark.



Known as "Charlie" to his many friends and associates, he was raised in Wilkes-Barre where he graduated from Coughlin High School and Wilkes College. He received a law degree from Dickinson School of Law in 1969.



Atty. Petrillo served the community for 30 years as Executive Director of Northeast Pennsylvania Legal Services. He also was a prominent local historian, writing five books about the working men and women and early industries of the area, including a history of Harveys Lake where his mother was born and raised.



In 2005, he received the Pennsylvania Bar Association's Civil Legal Aid Attorney of the Year award. He served terms as president of the Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor, president of the Luzerne County Historical Society, and on the board of the Anthracite Heritage Museum. He was a past-president of the Wilkes-Barre Family YMCA, where he was a life-long member and supporter of Camp Kresge.



A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 18 at 11 a.m. at the Alderson United Methodist Church, 108 Lakeside Dr., Harveys Lake, PA 18618, with Pastor Bill Bachman, officiating.



Private interment will be in Kocher Cemetery, Lake Twp.



Arrangements are by the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek.



In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Charlie's memory be made to the Wilkes-Barre YMCA, 40 W. Northampton St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701.
