Obituary of Richard John Swanson

Richard John Swanson of Hunlock Creek, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 14th at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre. Rick was born on September 13, 1961 in Fort Lee, Virginia to the late Bernadine (Garjulis) Swanson and William Carl Swanson. He grew up in the Lyndwood section of Hanover Township, Pennsylvania and graduated from Hanover Area High School in 1979. Some of Rick's greatest joys in life were spending time with his family, fishing, hunting, golfing, playing cards, cheering for Penn State football and the company of his lifelong friends and their sons. Rick enjoyed a fulfilling career in the brewing industry working for the Lion Brewery, FX Matt Brewery and D.G. Yuengling & Son, where he retired from in January 2024. Surviving are his beloved wife and partner, Lisa (Emmert) Swanson and their loving children, Ashlee (Swanson) Parisi and her husband Peter, Richard John Swanson II and his wife, Sara (Leary) Swanson. He is also survived by his sister, Carol (Swanson) Stetz and her husband David, sister-in-law Erin (Emmert) Groves and her husband Brandon, brother-in-law Paul Emmert and his wife Christine (Unice), niece Kaitlyn Emmert, and nephews Paul John Emmert Jr and Michael Swanson. Rick's beagles, Mazey and Seger will miss him terribly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William Swanson. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, April 21st at 12PM at the Prince of Peace Episcopal Church, 420 Main St., Dallas, PA 18612 with Rev. Joseph Rafferty, officiating. Rick's family will welcome friends at the church from 10AM-12PM prior to the mass. Funeral services are entrusted to the Curtis L. Swanson Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek.
