David E. Leapline, age 90 of Shavertown, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at the Meadows Nursing Home, Dallas. He was born in Dunbar on February 6, 1933 and was the son of the late Lester and Irene Cromwell Leapline. David graduated from Dunbar Twp. High School and attended Grace College at Winona Lake, Indiana where he received a bachelors degree. He received a masters degree from Eastern Michigan University, and also attended Penn State University, Marywood College, Temple University and Lehigh University. David served in the US Air Force Band during the Korean Conflict from June 20, 1950 to August 28 1953. He was employed by the Wyoming Valley West School District, where he was the director of special education for 10 years and then serving as the principal for 15 years before retiring in 1993. David was a member of the Grace Community Church in Dallas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nita Leapline; brothers, Robert, Lester, Lee Scott, and Steven Leapline; sister, Patricia Hawkins. David is survived by children, Zita Patton of Ohio, Diana Race (Andy) of Pennsylvania, Barbara Trautman (Mark) of North Carolina, Linda Gordon (Mike) of Pennsylvania, Karis Martindale (Larry) of Pennsylvania; sisters, Marion Soberdash (Alfred) of Pennsylvania, Nancy Allen (Larry) of Pennsylvania, Lois Tissue of Maryland, and Leslie Potter (William) of Virginia; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at 3:00 PM from Grace Community Church, 4122 Memorial Highway, Dallas, PA 18612 with Pastor Dwight Hodne, officiating. Viewing will be from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM prior to the service at the church.
