John “Spike” Maceiko, age 78 of Sweet Valley, passed Friday, October 8, 2021 at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre. He was born in Wilkes-Barre on April 22, 1943 and was the son of the late John and Mary Slauzis Maceiko. John graduated from Hanover High School and enlisted with the US Army, serving as a medic. He was employed by Wakefern Food Corp in Elizabeth, NJ serving for over 40 years, retiring in 2000. John was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed traveling, listening to music especially polkas and country, spending time with his family and friends, and telling stories about his adventures. John was a great provider and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, the former Marion Saluta; son, Anthony Maceiko and his wife Julie of Bridgewater, NJ; daughter, Lisa Wenzel and her husband Chris of Green Brook, NJ; grandchildren, Brandon, Alyssa, Breanna, Mia and Anthony; sister, Mary Barbara Weidner; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A prayer service will be held Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at 3:00 PM from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek with Rev. James J. Paisley of the St. Therese’s Church, Shavertown, officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Tuesday prior to the service. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
