Obituary of William Elias George

William "Bill" E. George, Jr., age 85 of Sweet Valley, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at the Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas. Mr. George was born in Nanticoke on June 13, 1932 and was the son of the late William E., Sr. and Josephine Schuerman George. Bill graduated from Newport High School in 1950 and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was employed at Retreat State Hospital and later retired from Danville State Hospital in 1991. Bill was a member of the Sweet Valley Volunteer Fire Co. and was a faithful and active member of the Sweet Valley Ambulance Association. He was also a member of the Sweet Valley Community Bible Church where he served as treasurer and trustee and the Maple Grove Cemetery Association where he served as president, treasurer and caretaker for over 30 years. Bill enjoyed supporting his grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their various activities. He was a resident of Sweet Valley for most of his life where he was known for decorating his yard at Christmas and other holidays. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by infant son, Kenneth George, brothers, Robert and Karl George and sisters, Dorothy Williams, Katherine George, Lorraine George and Patricia Pointek. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, the former Shirley Kitchen; daughter, Marcia Walsh of Sweet Valley; son, William D. George and his wife Elizabeth of Watsontown; grandchildren, Nicole Jones and her husband James, Nathan Walsh, William Elias George, III, Olivia and Emma George; great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Aly Jones; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 30, 2017 at 11:00 am from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek, with Pastor Timothy Cappucci of the Sweet Valley Community Bible Church, officiating. Friends may call 2-4 PM on Sunday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Pikes Creek. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sweet Valley Community Bible Church, 5390 Main Road, Sweet Valley, PA 18656 or the Sweet Valley Ambulance Association, 5399 Main Rd., Sweet Valley, PA 18656.
