George Brody, age 93 of Noxen, passed away peacefully Monday, July 17, 2017 at home. Mr. Brody was born in Wilkes-Barre on July 14, 1924 and was the son of the late Michael and Jennie Baroody Brody. George graduated from Tunkhannock High School and served in the US Navy during World War II sending Morse Code in the Philippines. He worked in the office at the Noxen Tannery and later was employed by the Bendix Corporation in South Montrose. He was the founder of Brody's Christmas Trees and loved picking apples. George was an active member of the St. Luke's Reformation Lutheran Church, Noxen. Many people will remember George for his kindness and generosity especially for baking and delivering his delicious homemade pies throughout the community. He was well known for his long walks and greeting people along the way. George was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Shirley Mae Hackling, brother, Michael Brody, and sisters, Louise Jadick and Alice Spencer. He is survived by son, Doug Brody and his wife Debbie of Noxen; brothers, James and John Brody, both of Tunkhannock; grandchildren, Heather Bartoli and Laura McCabe; great-grandchildren, Grace, Ben, Abby, Josh and Anna Claire. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 21, 2017 at 11:00 am from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek, with Rev. Val Rommel of the Noxen United Methodist Church, officiating. Friends may call 5:00 PM -7:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Orcutt's Grove Cemetery, Noxen. In lieu of flowers, make memorial donations to the Noxen Volunteer Fire Co., 3493 Stull Rd, Noxen, PA 18636.
