Obituary of Marlyn Jean Marr

Marlyn Jean Marr, age 81 formerly of Jackson Twp. and Meeker, passed away March 31, 2017 at Celtic Hospice located on Church St, Wilkes-Barre. Mrs. Marr was born in Jackson Township on July 8, 1935 and was the daughter of the late Gordon and Margaret Rood James. Marlyn graduated from the former Lehman-Jackson Joint High School, class of 1953. She was a member of the band and the basketball team, and met her future husband during those years. They settled in Lehman and Marlyn worked nearby in Dallas as a clerk for Natona Mills, a lace material manufacturing plant, for 32 years. She also enjoyed serving as a member of the Lehman Ladies Fire Co. Auxiliary and traveled as a Lake-Lehman Band Sponsor to competitions around the eastern states. Other travel included RV camping excursions to Canada, and many years locally at Grassmere Park. To spend time with their grandchildren, Marlyn and her late husband of 59 years, Robert Marr, became 'reverse snow-birds' as they traveled to TX during the summers, followed by winter travel to WI. The balance of their retirement time was spent helping local family and friends, dancing when possible, and attending antique car show events with members of the Antique Car Club of Irem Temple. Her other hobbies included singing, playing the piano and organ, sewing and baking the best cherry tart dessert around! She is survived by her loving daughters, Debra Beidleman and her husband Mark of Red Oak, TX and Pamela Marr-Laundrie and her husband Andrew of Brooklyn, WI; sisters, Nancy Marr of Harford and Peggy (Bob) Swank of Bloomsburg; grandchildren, Megan Green of Oak Cliff, TX and Caylan Laundrie of Brooklyn, WI. Funeral services will be held April 13, 2017 at 11:00 am from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek, with Pastor Ronald Cease of the Valley View Union Chapel, officiating. Friends may call 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM prior to the service. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Pikes Creek. The family would also like to express appreciative thanks to the nurses and staff at Celtic Hospice located at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre Campus for the care they provided during her short stay.
