Dennis Edward Bonning, Jr., age 91 of Shavertown, passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at the Celtic Hospice Healthcare Inpatient Unit, Wilkes-Barre.
Mr. Bonning was born in Plymouth Township on November 8, 1925 and was the son of the late Dennis, Sr. and Margaret Booth Bonning.
Dennis graduated from Lehman High School in 1943 and served in the US Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He retired from Brennan Electric in Edwardsville. Dennis was a member of the Shavertown United Methodist Church, past patron of the Dallas Chapter # 396, Order of the Eastern Star and served various other chapters in the Wyoming Valley. He was a charter member of the Jackson Twp. Fire Company and was a former Pennsylvania Game Warden. Dennis was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting and electrical work.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Edythe Swan, brother, Harold and sister, Jessie Bonning Wilcox.
Dennis is survived by daughter, Beverly Bunney and her husband John of Shavertown; son, Dennis Bonning, III and his wife Elling of Shavertown; grandchildren, Andrea Bunney Watson and her husband William of Atlanta, GA and Steven Stempien and his wife Stella of Hunlock Creek; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Sydney and Andrew Watson.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 9, 2017 at 11:00 am from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek, with Pastor Carol Folk of the Loyalville United Methodist Church, officiating.
Friends may call 2-4 PM on Sunday at the funeral home.
Interment will be in the Kocher Cemetery, Lake Twp.
